  • Kayhan Space unveiled Satcat, a new source for information on objects and events in Earth orbit.

  • Satcat, short for satellite catalog, merges open-source data on spacecraft and debris with tools to simplify research and analysis.

  • Satcat pairs information on recent and historical locations of active and decaying satellites with satellite communicates frequencies and space weather data.

🚀 LAUNCH CONTRACTS AND MISSIONS

  • The U.S. Space Force has selected Blue Origin, SpaceX, and United Launch Alliance for the National Security Space Launch Phase 3 launch services program. The three companies won contracts potentially worth $5.6 billion over five years, the Pentagon announced June 13. 

  • The three companies will compete for orders over the contract period starting in fiscal year 2025 through 2029.

  • Amazon’s Kuiper satellite constellation will provide connectivity in Latin America through a new deal with Vrio Corporation, the parent company of DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brasil.

  • Under the agreement announced Thursday, Vrio plans to use Project Kuiper’s network to provide connectivity services to residential customers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Ecuador, and Colombia through DirecTV Latin America and Sky Brasil. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

📜 REGULATORY & GOVERNMENT

  • The House Appropriations Committee on June 13 advanced an $833 billion defense spending bill for fiscal year 2025 that’s $16.5 billion below what President Biden asked for.

  • The bill greenlights $28.7 billion for the Space Force, or about $900 million less than the White House requested. Cuts were spread across several Space Force research, development and procurement programs, hitting both unclassified and classified projects.

  • Appropriators also pared back funds for the Global Positioning System satellite program. The committee cut $185.9 million from the procurement account for GPS IIIF satellites.

  • The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency is turning to the commercial satellite imagery industry for help monitoring objects in Earth’s orbit. The agency on June 12 released a request for information seeking input from companies in the emerging non-Earth imagery (NEI) market.
